‘The definition of marriage cannot be changed’ – The Vatican 16th March 2021 – Posted in: News

Definition of marriage I am pleased to report today that according to the Vatican, ‘the definition of marriage cannot be changed’.  Despite some people’s concerns that the Pope might take a more liberal view, the Vatican’s recent statement is clear.   So far as I am concerned this is good news indeed.  What’s more, it is certain to cause displeasure to ‘liberal elements’ within the Church, whether Roman Catholic or protestant.

As soon as I heard this news item from the Coalition for Marriage (C4M) I decided to post it here.  So here is the short email which I have reproduced verbatim:

Dear marriage supporter,

In a statement issued this afternoon, the Vatican’s doctrinal body, together with the Pope himself, affirms that marriage is only between one man and one woman.

The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith said that the Roman Catholic Church does not even possess the power to change the definition of marriage since it is rooted in God’s design of creation.

This statement, along with the press commentary, also affirms Roman Catholic teaching that sexual activity is only right within the confines of marriage.

This move is timely, particularly given the increasing calls for churches to be effectively banned from preaching about marriage. Some campaigners say a ban on ‘conversion therapy’ should also ban prayer and preaching which contradicts LGBT theology.

C4M stands with those of all faiths and none who support the true definition of marriage as between one man and one woman.
