Is offending people a crime

Pastor Josh Williamson

Let me ask you a question; is offending people a crime?  Surprisingly, the answer appears to be, it depends who you are, what you say and where you live.  It matters where you live, because that of course determines which Police Force you must contend with!  But extraordinarily, it doesn’t seem to matter if you’re the victim!

What’s more, you might believe that free speech means freedom to offend, but apparently not.  Indeed, you might believe in a democracy, there is no right not to be offended.  Again, it would seem you would be wrong to think that too.

I know what you must be thinking.  How can this?  Basically, my answer to that is “Well we live in the 2stst century, so what do you expect!”  Once upon a time you couldn’t make this sort of thing up.  Do you know what I mean?  How have we got into this predicament?  Well, let’s not forget, God did warn us.

For example, in 2 Timothy 3 we are warned about godlessness in the Last Days (see verses 1-4).  And in Isaiah 5:20 the prophet of old warns us… ‘Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness…’

At this time, political correctness and anti-Christian behaviour is definitely getting worse.  But don’t be surprised, because this another confirmation that we are living in the Last Days.

Listen to the facts here, of a very distressing account of the way a godly Pastor has been treated.  Not only by the perpetrators, but then by his local police force!!

Is Offending People a Crime?

What happened was Devon and Cornwall Police told a Christian pastor that if he offends the LGBT community he could be breaking the law.  This happened after he posted a comment on a social media thread that welcomed the cancellation of a local gay pride event.  Pastor Josh Williamson, 34, of Newquay Baptist Church, was warned by police to keep his views in a ‘safe environment’ after being targeted by a wave of anti-Christian abuse – including threats of violence and calls for his church to be burnt down.

This all took place in a sleepy sea-side town in Cornwall.  Take a listen…

P.S. Many thanks to Christian Concern for taking up the Pastor’s case.  Read more here.
