Spiritual Warfare

Spiritual Warfare

Volume One Chapter Three of my book is entitled ‘Dealing With Temptation – Spiritual Warfare’.

The chapter begins with the following words:

‘If you are a godly man, you are in a battle!  To mature Christian readers, that will be a statement of the obvious.  However, if you should doubt this biblical truth, and many do, there are some great books out there to help you come to terms with it.  I have listed some at the back of this book under the heading ‘Recommended Reading’.

The Chapter concerning Spiritual Warfare continues...

'There is another truth to keep in mind, and that is that God has an enemy, Satan, who wants to keep secret this fact that you are in a battle, the moment you commit your life to Jesus. If you’re sceptical about this statement, then I hope to convince you of its truth from God’s Word.

Firstly, the Bible is clear, that God wants all Christians - not just men - to understand that if you have given your life to Christ, then by that very act, you have become an enemy of the devil.  Every Christian is a target of Satan, and he will stop at nothing in his attempt to ‘take you out’ (make you ineffective for God or even destroy you), and prevent you from being used by God on the battlefield of this earthly life!

The devil has no fear of any unbelieving soul – his only fear regarding unbelievers is that he or she may turn to Christ.   At the point of surrendering your life to Christ, the devil musters his troops to try to come against you.

If you have recently come to Christ, knowledge of how to overcome the devil and his troops (his demons), is of paramount importance to you, and equipping you to overcome your spiritual enemy is the purpose of this chapter.’

The use of Scripture...

The key Bible verses for this important work come from the sixth chapter of the New Testament book of Ephesians.  This is an awesome letter written by the apostle Paul.  In it, he discusses how to recognise and denounce the lies of Satan.   I attempt to do expound this in ‘easy-to-understand’ language.  Having learned the principles of warfare from this critical message, we will then be better able to overcome temptation.   I clarify some of the deep concepts highlighted by Paul, these are: the shoes of peace, the breastplate of righteousness, the helmet of salvation, the belt of truth, the shield of faith and finally the sword of the Spirit.  I also quote from an excellent book on this much overlooked but vitally important, life-saving subject.

Be warned - you must not enter the battleground of spiritual warfare without being adequately prepared, and also covered in prayer.  You do so at your peril!

This chapter is designed to help new Christians and mature Christians alike.
